You can visit two areas with private houses : the first, North of Piazza Capitolo - you can reach it from a street near the rectory or from the Via Sacra - the second, West of via Iulia Augusta (entrance-gate opposite of via Patriarch Popo). The buildings show a plan with a clear ideological meaning: the atrium (open-air court) and the following perystilium (court sorrounded by porticoes, used as a garden) denote the presence of visitors, coming to greet daily the dominus, patronus to honour or colleague in public and political relations. The houses belonged to members of the municipal elite; it must be noted that they are related to the grid of streets, within square areas. We do not know at present any popular building of more stories.
